DownBallot is hiring Call Time Managers to work with our clients.
Remote · 5–20 hours per week
$21/hour
DownBallot is hiring experienced call time managers to work for our firm, staffing call time sessions for several candidates running in local and state legislative races in 2027.
We’re looking for people who know the ropes and have managed call time sessions before — ideally with a firm or as a senior finance staffer on a race of any size — and who can exercise good political judgment to help our clients raise money. For many of them, this is their first time running for office, so good coaching is critical.

About DownBallot and the role
DownBallot wins elections for Democrats running for local and state office across the country. Here’s some of the work we’re proudest of.
Our clients are first-time candidates, single parents, full-time teachers, civil rights lawyers, small town mayors, disabled veterans — you name it. The only word that doesn’t describe our candidates is boring.
We’re opinionated about call time. Traditional fundraisers dial 5-8 phones per hour with call sheets or outdated tools. Our clients average 20-40 calls per hour, and their fundraising reports show it. If you’ve always felt like the industry standard for fundraising is underwhelming, we might be a good fit.
What you’ll do
You’ll work for DownBallot, and you’ll manage remote call time session for our clients. That looks like:
- Managing call time by helping candidates stay organized, focused, and on schedule.
- Tracking conversations and next steps by recording call notes, tracking pledges, and sending donor follow-up.
- Using campaign fundraising tools to maintain useful records and help candidates manage their donor outreach.
- Coaching principals to make strong asks and get money in the door as often as possible.
All of our call time is remote, and you set your hours. You’ll occasionally have Call Time Assistants who are learning the ropes, and if you have good ideas, we’re likely to promote you to be a Call Time Lead.
How we schedule
Our clients provide their full availability weekly. As a Call Time Manager, you’ll choose sessions that match your availability. Call Time Managers can schedule up to 20 hours per week, and typically spend at least five hours in the call room.
If you’re located in Washington, DC, we schedule get-togethers or trainings about once a quarter. They’re optional, but we hope you’ll join us for a few!
What you’ll bring
You’re a good fit for this role if most of this sounds like you:
- You’ve managed call time for political candidates.
- You know how campaigns raise money and have helped them do it as a finance staffer, a finance director or campaign manager, or a fundraiser at a consulting firm.
- You have good political judgment and understand how donors think.
- You take excellent notes.
- You can teach anyone how to make a hard ask.
- You care about electing Democrats.
